A week of fjord cycling around the Hardangerfjord - the orchard country of western Norway - stitched together by ferries, a small fjord boat, and the Bergen railway.
The operator runs this on the weeks below. Other dates are not available.
This is a self-guided cycling week around the Hardangerfjord, the second-longest fjord in Norway and the heart of the country's fruit-growing region. The route loops out from Bergen by train to Voss, then drops down to the fjord at Ulvik and works its way back to Bergen by a sequence of cycling stages, vehicle ferries and a final boat through the islands of Sunnhordland.
The riding totals around 150 kilometers across four cycling days, with the longest day at roughly 70 km. The route is on quiet local roads close to the water, with one substantial climb from Voss up to the Skjervet pass and otherwise gently rolling terrain. The standout sections are the descent past Skjervefossen waterfall on the old road into Granvin, the orchard belt around Ulvik in spring blossom or autumn harvest, and the historic stretch around Rosendal with its 17th-century barony - the only baronial estate in Norway.
We arrange the trip through one of our long-standing Norwegian partners. Luggage is moved between hotels by support vehicle, the route is laid out in a navigation app with GPX tracks, and rental bikes (hybrid or e-bike) can be added for a fixed weekly price. Departures run from May through August.
You arrive in Bergen - UNESCO World Heritage city, designated UNESCO City of Gastronomy, and the historic gateway to the western fjords. Check in at a central hotel for the night. The afternoon is your own: the Bryggen wharf with its row of medieval Hanseatic timber buildings is a fifteen-minute walk from the hotel; the Fløibanen funicular climbs in seven minutes to the panoramic viewpoint above town.

Most travelers add a night or two at the start or end. We arrange these through the same operator network with the same single line of contact - write to us with your preference and we will fold it into your enquiry.

A reasonable level of recreational cycling fitness is enough. The longest day is around 70 km, and the only sustained climb is from Voss up to the Skjervet pass on Day 3. An e-bike (rental NOK 3,950 for the week) makes the climbing days noticeably easier if you would prefer to cruise rather than work.
The orchards are in flower in early to mid May (the famous Hardanger blossom), green and quiet through June and July, and in harvest from late August. Each window has its own atmosphere; we are happy to advise based on your dates.
We refer you to one of our long-standing Norwegian partners who runs this journey. The booking, contract, prepayment and consumer protection (under Norway's Reisegarantifondet) sit with the operator. The price is the same as booking the operator directly; we are paid a small referral commission and there is no extra cost to you.
For high season we recommend committing at least three to four months ahead. The fjord-side hotels are small and book out a season in advance.
No. We strongly recommend booking comprehensive travel and cancellation insurance separately, ideally at the time of booking the trip. The operator can suggest Norwegian providers if useful.

Geirangerfjord is famous for a reason, and crowded for the same reason. The side fjords are quieter and, in several cases, more striking.

Three regions, three different trips. Lofoten is Arctic islands at sea level. Jotunheimen is the high alpine country with the DNT lodge network. Hardangervidda is the open plateau. Here is the comparison we wish someone had written first.
