A self-guided cross-country week along the Peer Gynt loipe - through the upland country on the western flank of Gudbrandsdalen that gave Henrik Ibsen his most famous character.
The operator runs this on the weeks below. Other dates are not available.
This is a self-guided cross-country ski week along the Peer Gynt loipe - the famous prepared track that runs across the upland country on the western side of Gudbrandsdalen, the same country that gave Henrik Ibsen the setting for his 1867 verse drama. The route moves between four substantial mountain hotels - Dalseter in Espedalen, Fefor and Gålå on the high upland, and Skeikampen - with rest days built in at each base and prepared loipe radiating in every direction (the Espedalen network alone runs to 220 kilometers).
The skiing is on tracked loipe in gently rolling terrain at altitudes of around 900-1,100 meters, with continuous panoramas across to Jotunheimen, Rondane and Dovrefjell on clear days. The three moving days are short (13, 20 and 28 km) and there is the option of a longer high-route over the Ruten peak (1,517 m) on Day 3 for stronger skiers.
We arrange the trip through one of our long-standing Norwegian partners. Train transfer from Oslo Airport is included; bags are moved between hotels by support vehicle, and ski rental can be added at NOK 2,100 per person for the week.
You take the included afternoon train from Oslo Airport to Vinstra (around three hours up the Gudbrandsdalen valley), with an onward hotel transfer up to Dalseter Fjellhotell in the Espedalen valley.

A few hours of prior cross-country experience is enough. The loipe is well-prepared, the moving days are short to moderate, and the hotels offer technique advice on arrival.
We refer you to one of our long-standing Norwegian partners who runs this journey. The booking, contract, prepayment and consumer protection (under Norway's Reisegarantifondet) sit with the operator. The price is the same as booking the operator directly; we are paid a small referral commission and there is no extra cost to you.
Mid-February through mid-March - reliable snow on the prepared loipe and increasing daylight. The Norwegian school break in late February is the busiest week.
For the prime late-February dates we recommend committing at least four months ahead. The mountain hotels are popular with Norwegian winter holidaymakers and book out early.
No. We strongly recommend booking comprehensive travel and cancellation insurance separately, ideally at the time of booking the trip. The operator can suggest Norwegian providers if useful.

Three regions, three different trips. Lofoten is Arctic islands at sea level. Jotunheimen is the high alpine country with the DNT lodge network. Hardangervidda is the open plateau. Here is the comparison we wish someone had written first.

Eight properties - and the architectural philosophy behind them - that are remaking what a remote Norwegian stay looks like.
