A shorter version of the classic Trolløypa traverse - four cross-country days from Venabygdsfjellet across the southern fjell to Lillehammer, with one night at a DNT self-service hut.
The operator runs this on the weeks below. Other dates are not available.

Ask about the next dates →This is a self-guided cross-country ski week along the southern half of the Trolløypa - the long marked winter route that runs from Rondane to Lillehammer. The trip starts at Venabygdsfjellet at the southern edge of the Rondane massif and traverses around 100 km of upland country across four moving days, finishing in Lillehammer. It is the right format for skiers who want a genuine moving ski week but don't have time for the full nine-day expedition north from Høvringen.
The skiing is rated moderate by Norwegian standards but is real fjell skiing - open plateau and forest at altitudes around 1,000 meters, on a mix of prepared loipe and ungroomed sections. The middle of the week includes one night at the DNT (Norwegian Trekking Association) self-service cabin at Vetåbua, which is part of the experience: simple bunk accommodation, food on site, and the right kind of quiet at the heart of the route. The closing day rolls down via sections of the famous Birkebeinerløypa into Lillehammer.
We arrange the trip through one of our long-standing Norwegian partners. Train transfer from Oslo Airport is included, bags move between hotels by support vehicle on most days, and ski rental can be added.
You arrive at Spidsbergseter Resort Rondane on the Venabygdsfjellet upland - most easily reached by train from Oslo Airport to Ringebu and a short transfer from there. Welcome dinner.

We refer you to one of our long-standing Norwegian partners who runs this journey. The booking, the contract, the prepayment and the consumer protection (under Norway's Reisegarantifondet) sit with the operator. The price is the same as booking the operator directly; we are paid a small referral commission and there is no additional cost to you.
Yes. The standard itinerary is the most-walked or most-cycled version, but the operator routinely runs slower variants, longer stays at specific lodges, or extensions in Oslo, Bergen or other gateway cities. Tell us what you have in mind in the first conversation.
For high season (June through August), we recommend committing at least three to four months ahead. The lodges are small and book out a season in advance. Shoulder seasons (May, September) are typically more flexible.
No. We strongly recommend booking comprehensive travel and cancellation insurance separately, ideally at the time of booking the trip. The operator can suggest Norwegian providers if useful.

Three regions, three different trips. Lofoten is Arctic islands at sea level. Jotunheimen is the high alpine country with the DNT lodge network. Hardangervidda is the open plateau. Here is the comparison we wish someone had written first.

The itinerary-grade companion to the heritage playbook: a four-phase model and a day-by-day 10-day template (with a 14-day variant), built around archive days, the homestead visit, and the walking and fjord time that makes the week hold together.

The American worries about hiking Norway alone are mostly the wrong ones. A working risk model keyed to the things you already know: National Forest blazes, AT shelters, Half Dome and your own legs.
