A serious self-guided cycling week along the southern coast of Norway - Nordsjøruta and EuroVelo 12 from Sandnes to Kristiansand, through six small Sørland coastal towns.
The operator runs this on the weeks below. Other dates are not available.
This is a self-guided cycling expedition along one of the genuinely demanding stretches of the Norwegian National Cycle Route 1 (Nordsjøruta) and EuroVelo 12 - from Sandnes near Stavanger, around the southern tip of the country, to Kristiansand. The route is around 360 kilometers across six riding days, with cumulative climbing in the order of 4,500 meters and overnights in six of the most photographed small Sørland coastal towns: Egersund, Sogndalstrand, Flekkefjord, Farsund, Mandal and Kristiansand.
The cycling is rated challenging. The terrain along the southern coast is constantly broken - short sharp climbs, headlands, small valleys - and the long Day 5 from Flekkefjord to Farsund is the toughest, with around 1,600 meters of accumulated climb across 88 km. A shorter alternative via Vanse (79 km) is available on the day. July is deliberately not in the operating window - the roads are narrow and tourist road traffic is heavier. Late May, June and August are the recommended departure windows.
We arrange the trip through one of our long-standing Norwegian partners. Luggage moves between the seven hotels by support vehicle, the route is laid out in a navigation app with GPX tracks, and rental bikes (hybrid or e-bike) can be added for the full week with return shipping included.
You arrive at Stavanger's Sola airport or by train direct to Sandnes town center. The afternoon is your own; we recommend a short detour into Stavanger itself for the Bryggen old town, the Norwegian Petroleum Museum or simply the Vågen harbour.

Add to my enquiry →A night before flying out - the southern coast has a softer character than the rest of Norway and is worth a slow afternoon.
Add to my enquiry →Cycling season runs roughly May to September. Coastal regions are mild but wet; inland is drier and warmer. Long daylight hours mean you can ride well into the evening.

We refer you to one of our long-standing Norwegian partners who runs this journey. The booking, the contract, the prepayment and the consumer protection (under Norway's Reisegarantifondet) sit with the operator. The price is the same as booking the operator directly; we are paid a small referral commission and there is no additional cost to you.
Yes. The standard itinerary is the most-walked or most-cycled version, but the operator routinely runs slower variants, longer stays at specific lodges, or extensions in Oslo, Bergen or other gateway cities. Tell us what you have in mind in the first conversation.
For high season (June through August), we recommend committing at least three to four months ahead. The lodges are small and book out a season in advance. Shoulder seasons (May, September) are typically more flexible.
No. We strongly recommend booking comprehensive travel and cancellation insurance separately, ideally at the time of booking the trip. The operator can suggest Norwegian providers if useful.

Three regions, three different trips. Lofoten is Arctic islands at sea level. Jotunheimen is the high alpine country with the DNT lodge network. Hardangervidda is the open plateau. Here is the comparison we wish someone had written first.

Backroads, Country Walkers, Butterfield & Robinson. Three serious American operators, each with a Norway portfolio. Here is what each does well, what each does less well, and where a curator model fits.

From late May to mid-July, the Arctic loses its bedtime. Here is what that does to a journey, and how to plan one around it.
